Magtel participates in the European Fic-Fighters project promoted by Horizon Europe

Exhibitor: Magtel

The main objective of the project is to demonstrate a circular and systemic solution for the regeneration of seven local phosphogypsum stacks in Europe, targeting five economic sectors: batteries, packaging, construction, detergents, and fertilizers.

To achieve this, a pilot plant will be built, operating with two different approaches to recover up to 700 tons of phosphogypsum per year.

It is a circular economy plan that also integrates renewable energy solutions to support the plant’s operations.

The project involves a total of 28 partners, all from European Union countries, and is coordinated by IDENER. The budget has been estimated at a total of €11.7 million, of which the European Union is contributing €9.9 million.

This project targets five economic sectors: batteries, packaging, construction, detergents, and fertilizers. Magtel leads the construction of a mobile pilot plant to valorize up to 700 tons/year of phosphogypsum through sustainable processes.

Tharsis Mining operates and validates the pilot plant, managing the products obtained and handling shipments to the end users. The University of Seville leads the sampling, characterization, and intermediate-scale validation work, supporting Magtel and Tharsis Mining in process validation and result analysis.

The project partners include Tharsis Mining & Metallurgy, IDENER Research & Development, University of Seville, Åbo Akademi University, Civil Engineering Institute of Macedonia, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Belgium Nuclear Research Center, Prehnit - Croatia, CapturaCO2, S.L., Association pour la Recherche et le Développement d’Innovations et de Technologies pour la protection de l’heritage Environnemental, European Federation of Geologists, University of Huelva, Asistencias Técnicas Clave, S.L.U., Persán - PR, Cementos Cruz, State Agency of the Spanish National Research Council, ECTA Group, PRAYON, Fraunhofer IKTS, European Association for Local Democracy, Chrysteins, Fundación Ciudad de la Energía, Municipality of Barreiro, Federal Agency for Nuclear Control, and Municipality of Kavadarci - North Macedonia.
